Unemployed Mom Received Insensitive 'Guess Who's Moving' Eviction Notice

Sonja Lee and her two children live at The Steeples apartment complex in Houston, Texas. According to the Houston Chronicle, Lee received am unorthodox eviction notice Monday afternoon. The note left on her door featured a large smiling emoji and read, "Guess who's moving? You!!!". The letter continued, "Pay your outstanding balance, or release your apartment and turn in your keys to the leasing office by 6:00 p.m. today. Eviction will be filed promptly Tuesday morning, 8/18/2020."

Like many Americans, Lee is currently unemployed and struggling to pay rent. She says that she wasn't shocked to be receiving a letter about being behind on rent, but that she never expected something so tacky and unprofessional.

Sonja Lee's story has made headlines all over the country. The management company that owns the complex has apologized and clarified that Lee is not under eviction and nothing has been filed against her. They say the manager responsible for the eviction notice has been disciplined.

Lee has started a Go Fund Me to help support her and her children.
