WTOL Meteorologist Ryan Wichman does a regular segment on my Hammer Down Racing Report podcast called the Weekend Weather Pit Stop which is usually a pre-recorded forecast specifically for area racing events that he sends over earlier in the day. Last night during our taping, Ryan stopped by our studio about halfway through the show, after doing the 7pm news on TV, and it was a very enlightening and entertaining experience. DIRTcar Late Model National Champion Rusty Schlenk was the featured guest talking about his Summer Nationals (aka The Hell Tour) run in which 28 race were scheduled in a 30 day span and his bid for his elusive 200th career late model win. A lot of races have been rained out this year and Ryan gave Rusty some advice on how to pick which track to head to after one cancels due to rain. We also asked Ryan about the so-called racing vortex theory which states that cars racing on an oval track will create a vortex which will cause rain to move around the track and we may have schooled him on that one!
