So last weekend my son, Brendan, was running in the Regional Track Championship in Amherst, OH for Sylvania Southview. He was in two relays and the 1600M run. His relay team, which was awesome all year, came up a bit short after losing one of their best runners for medical reasons the week before at the league championships. They didn't qualify for state in either the 4x400 or the 4x800. The 1600M was the last event my son was scheduled to run. Although he finished first in the 1600 at the league championship, he was seeded 11th and seemed to be a long shot to make it to state. Only the top four finishers would qualify. He crossed the line with one lap to go in the ninth position and it seemed like this was going to be the end of his track season. It wasn't until the final few meters that he turned it up and blew by a few competitors and survived a crash at the finish line to end up fourth. His finish earned him a trip to Columbus for this weekend's Ohio State Track Championship. His time was 10 seconds faster than his previous best time. Proud dad moment.
