Toledo Walleye Beg People To Stop Calling Them The Walleyes

It has always been a slight pet-peeve of mine to hear Toledo Walleye fans, or even non-fans, refer to our hockey team as the Walleyes. I was almost giddy, yes I said giddy, when I saw the team tweet begging people to stop calling them the Walleyes. I equate it to the term deer. The plural of deer is not deers. The plural of walleye is not walleyes. Blame our complicated English language if you must, but the plural is simply walleye. As the Fox Sports Morning Blitz's Anthony Bellino boasts over the public address after a penalty kill, "All Walleye are back on the pond!" Not "All Walleyes..." Even the Indy Fuel chimed in some support, but those pesky Ft. Wayne Komets put in their two cents as well saying, " If it makes you feel any better... that’s not what we call you."
