Racing New Year's Day At Sandusky Speedway

Five years ago was the last time I competed in the annual Sandusky Speedway Hangover Race on New Year's Day. It was pretty much a blizzard with temps in the teens at most so the racing speed was not too aggressive. Things worked out this year that I had the option to do this race once again, and I am glad I did. This is one of the most fun events to race because there isn't much pressure and the whole intent is to just have fun. And fun it was. Although there were some wet/slick spots on the track, this was the first time for me racing on a somewhat fast asphalt track. I am used to racing on dirt and the same techniques I have learned over the past six years racing on dirt, do not work so well on pavement. It took me most of my heat race to figure that out as you can see from my in car footage in the second video below.

It is a cool mix of dirt and pavement racers coming together for a New Year's celebration no matter what the weather. There was a lot of moisture around the track from the heavy rains on New Year's Eve which made for a muddy pit area and some sizable puddles around the track. Unfortunately for this fella, a engine let go just in front of him and dropped oil on the track causing him to lose control and slam into one of these said puddles. Since it is a 360 video you can change the angle and watch it several times. :)
