Remember When The Cleveland Browns Didn't Suck?

This may date me a bit, but I was merely a small impressionable kid living just outside of Cleveland, Ohio, watching Browns games on an old black and white television around the time of the "Kardiak Kids". this was when I decided I was a Browns fan back around 1980 and I actually remember this 12 Days of Xmas parody being played all the time as the Browns made the playoffs that year with Brian Sipe at quarterback.

They would make several playoff appearances during the 80s, but never could make it to the Big Game. But at least they were contenders and you didn't have to be completely embarrassed to be a fan of the team.

Fast forward to 1999 to present. Post Art Modell's move of the team to Baltimore. It was super cool that city of Cleveland could retain the name, team colors and history of the Browns. It was not super cool having crappy teams with no consistency from year to year, having 43 million different quarterbacks, give or take a few. And instead of improving, this bad team has gotten even worse with only 1, let me re-emphasize this...ONE single regular season victory in the past two seasons.

We always say it looks like the team is headed in the right direction right before each season and then we continue to be disappointed. I really hope the cycle doesn't continue this season, but I am not going to get my hopes up just yet...wait. Yes I will. All us Browns fans do each year just before the season even if we won't admit it. But we are also prepared for the most likely disappointment that awaits us after the season starts.

Maybe someday the 'Factory of Sadness' will shut down and a new business will move in. How about the 'Factory of at Least Mediocrity'?

The Browns open the season at home against the Steelers on Sunday.
