For a span of about 6 years or so starting in the mid to late 90's, I would go up and spend the entire weekend at Michigan International Speedway (MIS) camping at what I think was Juniper Hills campground just outside the turn one parking lot. We would go up on Friday night and hang out until Sunday after the Cup race and then make our way back to Toledo after most of the traffic had cleared out. There was lots of food, drunk people and good times, but the cup race itself was sometimes a bit uneventful. That isn't to say there hasn't been some exciting action (check out the top five hardest crashes video down below). I have been back only a couple times over the last 15 years for a couple races, but sadly life has gotten too busy to dedicate an entire weekend like I used to do. Apparently I am not the only one though as the seating capacity of MIS has been reduced over the years as the crowds have not been as huge as in the past. I don't think that is a reflection of the track, but more of a trend at all NASCAR events...and one the sanctioning body can hopefully reverse sooner than later.
Anyway, if you are headed to any of the three major races this weekend (ARCA Series Friday, NASCAR Xfinity Series Saturday, or NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series on Sunday) have a great time!
