Local Racer Ends Up Upside Down After Big Crash

Things got a little crazy this past weekend for McClure, Ohio, late model driver Rusty Schlenk who ended up upside down after a huge crash Friday night at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan. Schlenk was the leader of the race on a restart with less than 10 laps to go. Rich Bell from Sheffield, Illinois, made a move to the inside going into the first corner and slid up in front of Schlenk for the lead in turn two. Schlenk's right front got hooked on Bell's left rear and the drivers limped down the backstretch losing speed as the rest of the field bared down on them. Not everyone got by and a huge pile up ensued that sent Schlenk's car up and over. Schlenk crawled out of his upside down car and started walking toward the infield and after a few glances over his shoulder he started running toward the front stretch where Bell's car was sitting. As you can see from the second video, Schlenk and Bell calmly discussed their displeasure. :)

Rusty Schlenk will be my guest on Thursday's Hammer Down Racing Report. Make sure to tune in to our Facebook Live broadcast at 7pm.
