After years of being involved in the racing business as a track announcer, I decided to delve into actually participating in the sport I had grown to love spectating. I bought my stock car from another racer back after the 2012 race season. I was so excited to get behind the wheel and race it that I decided to enter the very next racing event in the NW Ohio area....the annual New Year's Day Hangover Race at Sandusky Speedway. It was cold. It was snowy. It was slick as all hell, but it was also the most fun I have ever had. I ended up starting on the pole and managed to lead my very first racing lap as a car owner back on January 1, 2013. Below is video of that very first race. Keep an eye on that blue #8.
I wasn't sure how long I would stay involved in the sport due to the high costs involved and my extreme lack of knowledge of anything automotive at the time. but I am still in it. I have learned more than I ever dreamed with the support of the racing community....no, it is more like a big family than a community.
I am looking forward to this weekend's Hangover Race at Sandusky Speedway which was re-rescheduled due to some ridiculously cold days the past few weeks, but finally we get to kick off the 2018 race season on Saturday. Although I am not racing, I am excited to get back out to a race track, smell the racing fuel and watch the on track action. Did I mention this racing event is held in any weather (other than extremely dangerous cold conditions)? The snow and ice should make this a pretty fun event. Oh, and the snowballs are fun...unless you are a driver and get hit with them. That is less fun.
