Barney Oldfield - Racing Pioneer From NW Ohio

Barney Oldfield was born just outside Wauseon, Ohio in 1878 and grew up to become a pioneer in the sport of auto racing. In 1903 Oldfield became the first man to travel 60 miles an hour in an automobile. He was the first person to make a lap around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at over 100mph. Oldfield set many records in the early years of the automobile and was known as a bit of an outlaw. He did compete in two Indianapolis 500's and finish 5th both times.

This weekend, Oakshade Raceway honors this racing legend with the 28th Annual Barney Oldfield Race on Saturday night.
