Here Are All The Stores That Will Be Closed On Election Day

Election Day will take place on Tuesday (November 3). While not a national holiday, many companies have opted to make Election Day a company wide holiday for their employees. This decision will look different at each business, however, for major retailers who made Election Day a company wide holiday will either be completing closing their stores or reducing their hours of operation on Nov. 3. Here's a list from Offers.com of all the retailers who will be closed or have reduced hours:

&pizza: Washington, D.C.-based &pizza announced in June that it would close its 40 pizza locations on Nov. 3 to give its over 700 “employees paid time off to vote on Election Day.” This move isn’t new to the pizza chain who gave employees paid time off to vote in 2016 and 2018. But this is the first time the company is closing all locations to ensure everyone can cast their ballot on Election Day.

Away: On Sept. 15, the luggage retailer Away announced that its 10 U.S. locations would close on Election Day. Corporate and retail employees will have a full day of paid time off.

J. Crew, Madewell: The J. Crew Group, owner of J. Crew and Madewell retailers, announced on Aug. 11 that all stores, corporate offices, distribution and customer service centers will close for Election Day on Nov. 3. This move will allow “the entire employee base time to vote,” the company said in its statement.

Patagonia: Patagonia is a politically active company and dedicates a portion of its website to inform and educate voters of the importance of electing climate leaders. The clothing retailer has historically closed its U.S. stores and distribution centers to encourage their customers, employees and citizens the chance to vote.

Here are the retailers who will have reduced hours on Election Day:

Best Buy Election Day hours: For the first time in its history, Best Buy will shorten their hours for Election Day. Best Buy announced on Sept. 17 that stores will open at noon on Nov. 3, “so our store employees have the time they need to cast a ballot in person, if they choose.” The one-day change affects all Best Buy retail stores and services, field offices and the corporate campus.

Vineyard Vines Election Day hours: Vineyard Vines announced that it is giving employees three hours of paid time off on Nov. 3. In a Sept. 15 statement, Vineyard Vines CEO and Co-founder Ian Murray said, “Voter participation is important to us. We want to ensure that our employees from all across the country are prepared to vote and feel empowered to let their voices be heard on November 3rd.” Stores and corporate offices will have shortened operating hours and vary by location.

Retailers joining Time to Vote: Over 700 companies have joined the business-led, nonpartisan coalition Time to Vote. By joining, businesses are committing to flexible hours, paid time off and other options to get voters to the polls and increase voter participation in U.S. elections.
