Monday Evening Covid 19 Update-School Start Delayed Until May 1

At his daily presser Gov. Mike DeWine announced confirmed cases of coronavirus in Ohio reached 1,933 and deaths hit 39. The Governor also announced plans to extend the statewide K-12 school closure until May 1. Many already believe that school will be cancelled for the entire year, and if not that then school through the summer months. DeWine refused to speculate on that possibility.

The Ohio School High Athletic Association announced that its “no contact” policy between coaches and athletes will remain in place until schools reopen. Member schools will receive an e-mail with an adjusted timeline for spring sports.

DeWine spoke with Toledo's mayor today and discussed the need for more hospital space in the coming weeks Eight regional groups of hospitals submitted their preparedness plans to the state on Monday as planning continued to use facilities such as the Greater Columbus Convention Center as makeshift hospitals. There is also the possibility of Toledo sending patients to Michigan and vice versa, Detroit is expected to be another hot spot soon. Mr. Kapszukiewicz said he asked Governor DeWine about the possibility of closing the border to protect northwest Ohio residents living just an hour south of Detroit, and the governor wasn’t opposed.
