Elton John's Music Sales Double As 'Rocketman' Hits $100M At Box Office

NETHERLANDS-MUSIC-CONCERT

Elton John's Rocketman has surpassed $100 million globally at the box office, as the music icon's popularity reaches an all-time high.

A day after Paramount Studios announced the second consecutive week of high earnings, eBay chimed in with figures about about how Sir John's music has sold since the release of his fantasy musical biopic.

EBay reports that sales of John's music began to spike as early as May 1 — 30 days before the film's worldwide release. Today, John's music sales have doubled on the platform just under two weeks since the film came out.

In theaters, a strong second weekend secured Rocketman a spot in the Top 10 music biopics of all-time. The film has now earned over $50 million in the United States alone.

EBay adds that U.S. buyers are purchasing Elton Joh memorabilia at the highest rate of any country worldwide. Queen sold one item per minute after releasing Bohemian Rhapsody last fall; eBay says John will likely meet the same mark.
