Health Department Investigating Possible Measles Case In Sylvania

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department in investigating a possible case of measles.

A student at one elementary school in the Sylvania School System is possibly ill with the disease. Results of a test that would confirm a measles diagnosis are expected next week. The health department says school officials are working closely with them to ensure proper protocols are followed.

Measles is a very contagious, vaccine-preventable disease. The health department adds that measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccines has been proven highly effective at preventing the transmission of measles. One dose of MMR vaccines is approximately 93% effective at preventing measles and two doses are approximately 97% effective.
