Port Clinton, Ottawa County Declare States of Emergency Over Water Levels

PORT CLINTON, Ohio - The City of Port Clinton and parts of Ottawa County are under a state of emergency due to rising waters from Lake Erie.

WTOL 11 reports Port Clinton Mayor Mike Snider and Ottawa County commissioners made the declarations because rising water levels and wave action from the lake are causing flooding and erosion.

"As a result of historic high-water levels, I am declaring a State of Emergency within the City of Port Clinton. This declaration shall exist within the City of Port Clinton effective at 2:00PM on Thursday, May 16th, 2019 and shall continue until a point in time when my Administration is comfortable that our concerns about our shoreline and shoreline related infrastructure issues are mitigated," Mayor Snider said in a statement.

Port Clinton City Beach has also been closed for the duration of the emergency. The City says no extraordinary actions outside of normal safety protocols already in place within daily life are required in the City by this declaration.
