House Committee Passes "Reagan Tokes Act"

(Columbus, OH) A bill named for a murdered Anthony Wayne student is headed to an Ohio House floor vote.

The so-called Reagan Tokes Act cleared an Ohio House committee Tuesday, but the bill differs somewhat from a version already passed in the Ohio Senate. The bill is named for the former AW tennis player and Ohio State University student because of the circumstances that led up to her kidnapping, rape, and murder.

The measure allows indeterminate sentences for violent felons and improves GPS monitoring of offenders after their release.  A committee would also be formed to examine improvements to offender supervision.

Meantime, the victim's parents are suing the state for damages for allowing her killer to roam free while on parole and under supervision at a halfway house.
