Excavation Work Begins at Luckey Clean-up Site

(Luckey, OH) Clean-up is getting more extensive at a former World War II weapons factory in Wood County.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says excavation of contaminated soil began late last week at the site in Luckey, proceeding slowly to ensure that all systems and procedures are working properly.

The first phase involves stockpiling contaminated soil for sifting and sorting. Clean-up crews will use dust control measures to ensure none of the contamination becomes airborne during the clean-up.

The public will be notified when contaminated soil will be transported off-site to a Michigan hazardous waste dump. That soil will be bagged and sealed inside intermodal containers when headed north.
