Maumee River Water Advisory in Effect

(Toledo, OH) There's a recreational water advisory out for the Maumee River near downtown Toledo-- just in time for a hot weekend.

The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department issued the public health advisory Thursday, because of a strong algae bloom that may have blown or floated upriver from Maumee Bay or Lake Erie. A slimy green sheen can be seen in the Maumee River near Promenade Park.

Public health officials recommend children, pregnant or nursing women, pets or people with compromised health not come in contact with the water. If you do, you're advised to rinse your skin immediately.

Toledo city leaders emphasize the advisory is simply precautionary-- and maintain the city water supply is safe to drink.
