COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSPD) -- Ohio State Rep. Terry Blair has died after battling an illness.

"Representative Blair was not only an outstanding local leader to his community throughout his decades of public service in Montgomery County, but he was a remarkable chairman and distinguished member of the Ohio House of Representatives. He was also a very dear friend of mine whose integrity was above reproach and I am deeply saddened by today’s news," said House Speaker Bill Batchelder.

Blair chaired the House State and Local Government Committee. Before winning election to the Statehouse, the three-term Republican served 20 years as a township trustee. Privately, he was chief financial officer for Buckeye Pools.

“Although we worked on opposite sides of the aisle in the Ohio House of Representatives, I always appreciated State Representative Blair’s generosity and collegiality," said State Rep. Chris Redfern, who is also chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party.

Blair was married to his wife, Judy, for more than 40 years. They have four children and eight grandchildren.
