Cleveland In Final Round to Host 2016 RNC

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WSPD) -- The Republican National Committee has narrowed their list to host the 2016 Republican National Convention to two: Cleveland and Dallas.

"Cleveland and Dallas demonstrated their ability to host a phenomenal convention in 2016, and the RNC is excited about the prospect of hosting our convention in either of these great cities. After visiting both cities, I can say to my fellow Republicans that we should be excited for the 2016 convention," said Site Selection Committee Chairwoman Enid Mickelsen. "These world class cities know how to roll out the welcome mat, and more importantly they have the ability to provide our next presidential nominee a launching pad that will put a Republican in the White House in 2016."

Denver and Kansas City had also been in the running, but were eliminated on Wednesday.

Democrats also announced on Wednesday that they plan to visit six sites in their search for a 2016 host city. Those cities include: Birmingham, Cleveland, Columbus, New York, Philadelphia & Phoenix.

Ohio hasn't hosted a major party political convention since Cleveland hosted Republicans in 1936.
